Prof. Dr. habil. Martin Schieder is professor of modern and contemporary art at the institute of art history of the Leipzig University.

His research focuses on French and German art from the 18th century to today. He is particularly interested in art and culture transfer and the cultural history of the exhibition and the artist studio.

He is the author of Im Blick des anderen. Die deutsch-französischen Kunstbeziehungen 1945-1959 (Berlin, 2005) granted with the German-French Parliament Award 2005 of the German Bundestag and the French Assemblée Nationale. His publication Jenseits der Aufklärung. Die religiöse Malerei im ausgehenden Ancien Régime (Berlin, 1997) received the Marianne Roland Michel Award 2012 of the Foundation Marianne & Roland Michel and the Insitut de France. He edited with Guido Reuter of Inside / Outside. Das Atelier in der zeitgenössischen Kunst (Petersberg, 2012).
