Research Internships

The German Center for Art History (DFK Par­is) offers internships lasting five or six months (35 hours/week) for art history students. Internships can be completed as a compulsory requirement for a degree or through personal initiative. The interns assist the management and the directors of research with their projects and in the following infrastructures: German Publications, French Publications, "Media of arthistory" (Medien der Kunstgeschichte), Research Funding and the DFK library. In addition, interns are usually asked to assist the Secretariat with some organizational tasks and help at the reception desk in the library.

Interns receive a monthly compensation of around 600 Euros (full-time internship) as well as the usual restaurant tickets in France. In addition, 50% of the Navigo Pass is reimbursed for public transportation in Paris (zone 1-5). At the same time, students can apply for a complementary "Erasmus+"-grant for internships abroad. Applicants must be enrolled in a German or French university. Good knowledge of French (with very good knowledge of German) or good knowledge of German (with very good knowledge of French) is desirable. Good knowledge of English is also expected.  

Terms & application deadlines:
Internship from September 1 to February 28 (application deadline: April 30).
Internship from March 1 to July 31 (application deadline: November 15 of the previous year).

Please submit the complete application documents consisting of a letter of motivation, indicating specific preferences regarding placement in a department, a CV, copies of proof of previous academic achievements, a current certificate of enrollment and a current letter of recommendation from a university lecturer via our application portal.

Library Internships

The German Center for Art History (DFK Par­is) also offers internships (usually 20 hours a week) for a period of three months at the DFK Paris Library. These internships are particularly geared toward university students at an advanced level in a library science program. Interns become familiar with all the operational procedures of a research library specialized in art history. Computer skills and proficiency in French are desirable. 

The conditions for library internships are the same as those for research internships.

Administration Internships

The German Center for Art History (DFK Par­is) offers full-time internships in public management, for a minimum period of three months, to fulfil requirements for university degrees. These internships are geared, in particular, towards students at an advanced level of a public management studies program in Germany.

Excellent proficiency in German and French is required.
