Research focus

Mathilde Arnoux is Research Director and Head of French Publications at the DFK Paris. She defended her doctoral thesis in 2003 at the Université Paris IV under the direction of Barthélémy Jobert on La réception de la peinture germanique par les musées français entre 1871 et 1981. She has since developed research on artistic relations in the 19th and 20th centuries through the analysis of the artistic press and the study of epistolary exchanges. From 2011 to 2016, she directed the ERC (Starting Grant) project OwnReality. To Each His Own Reality. The Notion of the Real in the Fine Arts of France, West Germany, East Germany and Poland between 1960 and 1989, working with a team of young European researchers to study artistic relations between countries on either side of the Iron Curtain. This work led to her habilitation in 2017 at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre, with Ségolène Le Men as advisor.
