IIIF Lightning Talk : Repurposing the manifest - use case

Since spring 2021, the DFK Paris has been preparing a relaunch of the database "Deutsch-Französische Kunstvermittlung 1870-1960" on its website. This includes a redesign of the user interface, which in the near future will offer an embedded view (via IIIF-viewer) of the articles cited in the database and short entries in German and French journals of the period mentioned (see prototype https://t1p.de/4os2). For this purpose, the DFK Paris has researched about 3000 references in the Gallica (BnF) and the Heidelberg University Library down to the number of the canvas, so that our users will be led directly to the entry they are interested in. We suppose, that there might be a growing interest in using IIIF resources in a similarly easy way by researchers, who therefore do not want to create and offer IIIF manifests themselves but to repurpose them. Therefore, we would like to share our experience and point out some challenges we have encountered.
