The research area Transculturality and Mobility brings together projects and initiatives for which the experience of encounter is a constitutive moment of both theory and practice. They have in common the investigation of artistic relationships and processes of exchange, beyond nationalistic perspectives and/or statistical inquiries. They are characterized by an art history for which mutability and diversity are not confounding factors, but rather are key aspects of all art. By focusing on regions beyond the canonical centers of art history – both within and outside of Europe – this research area aims in particular to spur a critical reterritorialization of the discipline.
