History of Institutions and Sciences

History of Institutions and Sciences

In considering the connection between art and institutions, the research area History of Institutions and Sciences places art history and its actors within a sociological as well as an anthropological framework. Its areas of emphasis are currently the Ancien Régime and the first half of the 20th century. The issues that arise – for example, with regard to artist groups, academies, salons, or actors in the art market – are closely linked with the history of scholarly practices and of art history itself as a discipline. Case studies demonstrate these interdependencies and their implications for the production and reception of art.
